When transferring a domain from another provider/registrar to Conetix there is generally a wait time until it completes. Throughout a transfer your domain/website will remain online, however, during the process, you won’t be able to make any adjustments to your nameservers or whois contacts so we recommend doing this before initiating the transfer.

AU domain transfers

Including .com.au, .net.au, .org.au, .id.au extensions typically take exactly 48 hours to transfer from the time which the transfer authorisation link is clicked. If a domain transfer email is not approved, it will time out and not complete.

gTLD domain transfers

Including .com, .net, and .org among others typically take 7 days from the time the transfer is placed. gTLD domains do not require a transfer link to be clicked and will be moved automatically.

These time frames are not guaranteed and they can take less or more time depending on a variety of circumstances.

.day domain names are an encrypted-by-default TLD by virtue of being inscribed in the HSTS Preload list. As such, websites hosted on .day will not load on modern browsers unless they are served over HTTPS (ie. with an SSL certificate).

When a new gTLD domain name is purchased, an existing domain name is transferred or the Registrant’s Firstname, Lastname or Email addresses are modified on an existing domain name, our domain Registrar Synergy Wholesale checks and validates the provided information by performing a “Domain name Registrant contact data verification”. 

How do I verify my domain?

When a domain is transferred to us the registrant email address contact will receive, via email, a specially encoded link which must be clicked within 14 days to validate the Registrant contact data. Provided the link is clicked within 14 days of the verification process commencing, there will be no impact to your service. In the event the verification is not completed immediately, a reminder is sent after 7 and 13 days; followed by notification of domain suspension after 14 days.

When a company or registrant goes out of business they will often put their domains up for sale or auction them off on websites like GoDaddy or HugeDomains. Depending on how memorable it is or how well it ranks on Google, a domain can be worth a lot of money to the right buyer.

Domain auctions exist to give domain owners an opportunity to sell their domain for a profit and give buyers a chance to get a name that can take their website to the next level.

Domain not for sale?

If you still wanted to get your hands on the taken domain you would need to do so through a private sale. To check if the domain you are looking to purchase is available you can follow the below links

You will then be able to enter in the domain you want to search which will provide some information associated with that domain. If the domain has ID protection turned on, you can see if they have contact information listed on their website. Please keep in mind that it’s unlikely that the owner will want to sell unless they have listed the domain for sale, or they may demand a steep price.

Finding alternatives

If the exact domain you’re after is taken there are over 1,500 domain extensions you can choose from. If your ideal was a .com.au try the .com, or .net or any other potential combination, if checking our domain search here it will show you available variants when you type in a domain name. 

If two or more parties applied for priority for the same .au direct domain name during the priority period, the domain name is referred to as a contested name. The contested name will remain on priority hold until the applicants come to an agreement as to who will be allocated the name.

If you wish for your application to remain ongoing or until competing applicants withdraw their applications you need to pay the yearly renewal of $15. This article will step you through renewing your Direct .au application here at Conetix.

The .GOV.AU domain name is a special domain name extension that can only be registered through special domain registrars set up by the Australian government. You can apply for a .GOV.AU domain name here.

Transferring a .GOV.AU domain name

Unfortunately, we cannot transfer these types of domain names to Conetix as they must be held with the Digital Transformation Agency.

This article will help step you through registering a new .AU domain (also known as “Direct-AU”) via your Conetix Account.

Instructions

1. Login to your Conetix account here.

2. Once logged in, click the Domains dropdown from the left-hand menu, then click Register a New Domain.

3. Enter the domain name that you would like to register, and the system will check to confirm if it is available to be registered.

4. If the domain name is available to be registered, select how many years you would like to register it for;

5. The domain will now appear in your Cart. Once you are happy to proceed, click Checkout.

6. You will now be prompted to fill out the details that the domain will be registered under.
As .AU domains require an Active ABN or ACN, we will need you to fill these details in here.
Then, choose the relevant Registrant ID Type, Business Number Type, and type of business/organisation that your ABN/ACN is registered under.

7. Confirm the Nameservers that the domain will use.

8. Click Continue.

9. Review your order and click Checkout to proceed to make payment.

Once your domain has been successfully registered, you will receive an email from our Registrar with a .au Registration Certificate.

.net.au domains were originally designed as a domain extension for network providers or Telcos however they quickly became an alternative domain extension to a .com.au and are now recognised by the general Internet user as a trusted domain extension.

.NET.AU Domain Eligibility Requirements

What do I need to register a .net.au domain?

• Sole Trader
• Partnership
• Not-for-profit organisations (including Religious/Church groups)
• Any Australian Public or Private Company (Can either be Limited by Guarantee or Limited by Shares)

What if I don’t have an ABN/ACN?

In order to register a .net.au, .com.au or .org.au domain, you are required to have a valid ABN/ACN. If you do not have one, you will not be able to register a domain.

You can apply for an ABN on the ABR website.

What if my ABN/ACN has been cancelled?

Registrants who have previously registered domain names using an ABN/ACN which has since been cancelled must re-apply for their ABN at the ABR in order to qualify for future domain renewals. Further information on re-applying can be found on the ABR website.

This article will detail the steps involved when updating the Contact details on a Domain with ID Protection through the Conetix Control Panel.

Domain ID Protection is a service that “masks” the contact details of the domain registrant/owner from services that provide publicly available WHOIS information. ID Protection provides an added layer of safety for your company’s private website data and information. We highly suggest adding this service when registering your domain name with Conetix to protect your personal information and privacy.

Instructions

1. Login to the Conetix Control Panel and Navigate to the Domain’s Tab as shown below

2. Select ‘Manage’ on the relevant Domain

3.  Select ‘Addons’ on the right hand side as shown below then click ‘Disable’

 4. Select ‘Contact Information’ on the right hand side as shown below

5. Update the Relevant Contact Information.

6. When done, select ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the page.

7. Select ‘Addons’ on the right-hand side as shown below then click ‘Buy Now’ to hide your Domain Contact details again.

Once you have re-enabled ID Protection on your Domain your private details will no longer be visible on a WHOIS search.

8. You have successfully updated the Registrant Contact Details.

A Registration Certificate is a document that is generated when a .au domain name is registered, which contains some information regarding the newly registered domain.
Upon registering a .au domain, a Registration Certificate is automatically issued by our Registrar and sent to the Registrant Contact Email Address that was listed on the domain’s registration details.

Registration certificates are not proof of ownership of a domain name.

When do I get a certificate of registration?

When a new domain is registered you will receive an email titled “DOMAIN.COM.AU has been successfully registered” with your Domain Registration Certificate attached. Please ensure you save this as should you move the domain away from Conetix you will not be able to retrieve this.

I have registered a .com / .net domain – can I get a Domain Registration Certificate?

Only .au domains can receive a Domain Registration Certificate as they have an attached ABN / ACN.

A registration certificate can only be issued/provided by the company you registered the domain name with. If you transfer the domain name to another registrar, your new registrar cannot provide a registration certificate.
